We welcomed two children (sister and brother) with Japanese roots, living in the US, Hawaii, for 3 weeks as a part of the cultural exchange childcare at Itabashi Fujimi Kindergarten! Their parents asked us to talk to them in Japanese because they hope that children will never forget their Japanese roots, culture and language even if they were born and raised in the US. Both of them seemed a little confused at first, but they were warmly welcomed by Ao class Teacher Misaki, children, and their families and the 3 weeks that they spent in Ao class became an unforgettable memory for both of them and Ao class children. Ao class  children actively talked to them both in Japanese and English, helped them when they needed support, and developed play with them. Also, the two children shared Hawaiian culture, location, and traditional dance Hula with us! The last day was a tearful farewell. Through this cultural exchange childcare, we hope that both the two children and Ao class children will develop interests in multiculturalism and a kindness to welcome people with different languages and cultures.
